Why Moleskine Planners Have Stood the Test of Time: A Customization Guide

Moleskine notebooks have been around for centuries and continue to be a staple of artists, writers, and professionals alike. Known for their sleek and elegant design, Moleskine notebooks have become synonymous with creativity and productivity. The popularity of these notebooks may have dwindled over the years, but they still have a loyal following.

One of the reasons why Moleskine notebooks continue to be popular is their versatility. They can be customized in countless ways to suit the individual needs of the user. Visual designer Mike Rohde is a prime example of this. He has shared his setup for creating a custom Moleskine planner, which showcases the flexibility and customization options of these notebooks.

Planner Formatting

Rohde started with a new line-ruled Pocket Moleskine notebook and began to draw up his custom planner. He divided each page vertically into three sections of seven lines each, leaving room at the top of the page for the month on the top left and week number on the top right. He even considered using this space for inspiring quotes.

Next, he added the days and dates to each section of the two-page spread, dividing the 6th block on the lower right page in half with a vertical rule for Saturday and Sunday. Rohde used a Uniball Signo 0.38mm pen, as the thin line dried quickly and did not bleed through the Moleskine paper stock.

He continued with this format for 31 two-page spreads, through December 31, 2006. Pocket Moleskines have 192 pages, so it is possible to do an entire year and have several pages left over for notes, which is a distinct advantage over a stock Moleskine Weekly planner.

The Advantages of Customization

The beauty of customizing a Moleskine planner is the freedom it provides. Users can create a planner that caters to their personal needs and preferences. Whether you are a busy professional or a student, a custom Moleskine planner can help you stay organized and productive.

For example, if you are a freelancer or a small business owner who needs to track billable hours, you can create a section in your planner to record your time spent on each project. This will help you stay on top of your invoicing and ensure that you don’t miss any billable hours.

On the other hand, if you are a student who needs to keep track of assignments, tests, and project deadlines, you can use your planner to create a detailed schedule for each week. You can also add sections for notes, goals, and to-do lists to help you stay on top of your studies and achieve your academic goals.

Conclusion

Moleskine notebooks have stood the test of time because of their versatility and customization options. Whether you are an artist, writer, or professional, a Moleskine notebook can help you stay organized and productive. By customizing your notebook, you can create a planner that caters to your personal needs and preferences. Whether it’s adding sections for billable hours, study schedules, or inspiring quotes, a custom Moleskine planner can help you achieve your goals and boost your creativity.
