On the second day of the race, the dog stood beside him during the run. Incredibly, despite the rough terrain, Gobi ran for 23 miles. From that day on, the two of them became racing partners. Even though they had only just met, they had an instant connection that would only get stronger.

The man-dog team raced together for another 26 miles on the third day. The other competitors, crew members, and volunteers fell in love with Gobi, but she had eyes only for Leonard. He shared his sleeping space as well as food and drink with her. During the race, he carried her across sluice gates and rivers that she could not cross on her own. Their bond was unbeatable.

The weather conditions were not suitable for Gobi to participate on days four and five. However, the organizers of the event, as Gobi had become quite famous, carried her to the end point of the race so that she could greet her new partner at the finish line. This did not deter her spirits, though. On the next and final day, Gobi was back in the game, and the man-dog team crossed the line together. Gobi ran for over half the distance of the 155-mile marathon, which was a remarkable feat for a puppy.

Meanwhile, Leonard and Gobi have developed an unbreakable bond, and they seem to be inseparable.
